Not at all! The process requires no drilling and very much resembles getting orthodontic brackets (braces) put on.

Depending on what service you are booking, applications can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes.
What is aftercare like?
For the first hour after getting a tooth gem, you shouldn’t eat, drink, or smoke. After that you should just be mindful of the gems, and eat softer foods for the remainder of the day. DO NOT BRUSH FOR 12 HOURS. DO NOT USE AN ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH FOR 48 HOURS.
Will getting a tooth gem damage my teeth?
When properly applied tooth gems are harmless and cause no damage to natural teeth.
How long do tooth gems last?
They should last minimally 3-6 months with proper care and hygienic practices, but can last beyond the initial 6 month period. Gemmed by Gia offers a 30 day guarantee, and will replace jewelry if it has fallen off within one month of your appointment.
What if I swallow the gem?
The piece will come out naturally. Jewelry used has no sharp edges and will not harm you.
What if I no longer want my tooth gem(s)? Can they be removed?
Yes! Gems are bonded to the enamel like braces, without any drilling or pain. The procedure and removal can be compared to the placement and removal of orthodontic brackets. When it is removed the gem is simply popped off and the tooth will be polished to remove any remaining bonding material.
Are there age restrictions for getting a tooth gem?
No. People of all ages can get a tooth gem.
Will I be able to feel the jewelry on my tooth?
Initially, yes. You will notice there is an addition to your smile for the first couple of days, but over time you will get used to the new feeling.
Can I still brush my teeth?
Absolutely, it is recommended! The presence of the jewelry will not make any difference regarding dental hygiene.
Can I still go to the dentist?
Yes, you can and should still have your teeth cleaned by a professional. Gemmed by Gia jewelry will not cause a problem for the hygienist cleaning your teeth. The area underneath the jewel is sealed like a filling and will not let in any bacteria. The hygienist can easily polish on top and around the jewel with a soft point.
